What is RiskApp?
RiskApp is a project risk assessment tool for managing uncertainty in construction and engineering projects. It uses structured methods to reduce judgment variability across team members, providing consistent risk evaluation and clear treatment guidance. The system implements Likelihood × Exposure × Severity (LES) assessment with uncertainty ranges rather than single-point estimates.

Core Capabilities
Uncertainty Ranges
Risk scores include minimum, most likely, and maximum values. Shows plausible range rather than single-point estimates.
Statistical Runway
Displays distance to intolerable threshold in points. Calculates probability that risk exceeds organizational limits.
Three Decision Zones
Tolerable (0-75), Investigate (75-300), Intolerable (300-400). Thresholds validated across 216 LES combinations.
Standards Alignment
Methodology aligns with ISO 31000 risk management principles and AACE 41R-08 quantitative analysis guidance.
Multi-Category Assessment
Single events assessed across Safety, Reputation, Cost, Quality, Environment, and Time. Dominant category determines status.
Treatment Modeling
Quantified reduction factors applied to Likelihood, Exposure, or Severity. Shows effectiveness through probability reduction.
Explore the Risk Envelope
The risk envelope shows all 216 possible L×E×S combinations in 3D space. Interact with the visualization below to explore how likelihood, exposure, and severity combine to produce risk scores.
Interactive 3D Risk Envelope
Rotate, zoom, and hover to explore the risk space. Points are colored by zone: ■ Tolerable, ■ Investigate, ■ Intolerable.
L×E Risk Matrix
How Likelihood and Exposure combine at Severity = High. Each cell shows the resulting LES score.
Risk Zone Distribution
Distribution of all 216 L×E×S combinations across the three risk zones.
The LES Methodology
RiskApp uses Likelihood × Exposure × Severity (LES) assessment with triangular fuzzy numbers:
- Independent Assessment – Likelihood, Exposure, and Severity evaluated separately before combination
- Uncertainty Ranges – Each dimension has min/mode/max values. Full range preserved through calculation
- Confidence Adjustment – Beta confidence shifts mode 40% toward maximum when uncertainty is high
- Severity Weighting (S^1.5) – High-severity events weighted 50% higher than likelihood or exposure
- Bias Detection – System flags assessments with suspiciously narrow ranges or mode-to-minimum bias
- Treatment Quantification – Reduction factors applied to ranges, showing probability reduction achieved
